In early February on an illustration trip I visited Florence. Being the birthplace of the renaissance this was an exciting trip to go on, not only for the exquisite pieces of art but also the history and architecture.
I'm a sucker for historical families and Florence had its very own family that changed the world: The Medicis. I'd already heard about them through watching various historical shows before watching Medici: Masters of Florence so I was really excited to be going to the city where they began their rise to power. Without them the renaissance would not have given us artists such as Donatello and Botticelli.
Although we went during the off season we still had a few beautiful days where you could see the whole of Florence from the towering heights of the cathedral and the Palazzo Vecchio.
